Hispanic Heritage Month (15th September-15th October) marks a reason to celebrate things that have their origins within the Hispanic culture. A favorite of many, Zumba is a fitness program created by the Colombian Dancer and Choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez in 1998 in Cali, Columbia.

Fitness Is More Than Physical Health

Fitness Day marks an event to enlighten people about the benefits of physical activity. A day projecting a happier, healthier lifestyle, motivating the masses towards the implications of a physically inactive life. Improving our physical health has an incredible effect on our mental health. There is an improvement in our confidence and social connections, and it helps us build better communities.

Necessity Is The Mother Of All Inventions

‘Zumba’ or ‘Rumbacize’ (as it was initially known) was created by Alberto Perez. The dancer cum choreographer used to work as an aerobics instructor. One day, having forgotten to bring in his regular music, Perez made his class swing to the tunes of Latin music — Salsa and Merengue. Positive feedback motivated him to teach ‘Rumbacize’ regularly as an alternative to aerobics. Later in 2001, Perez partnered with Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion; released a series of fitness videos, and sold via infomercial. Zumba is a trademark owned by Zumba Fitness, LLC. Today it has spread over the globe as an alternative to many traditional fitness regimes. Added to the health benefits, Zumba has grown as a brand and a business. Today, there are certified instructors in more than 125 countries, who incorporate Zumba into their clients' daily workout routines.

Benefits Of The Art

Zumba ensures full-body cardio, and aerobic workout with music; which comes from varied dance styles, viz. Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Flamenco, Samba, Hip-Hop, Tango, etc. It boosts heart health; acts as a definite stress buster; reduces anxiety, and depression; and releases endorphins making you happy, and triggering positive vibes.

Zumba Breaks Age And Style Barriers. Is A Definite Go-To For Everyone

For kids, it is the perfect recipe for fun; it provides them with an outlet to dance, jump, shake and swing. It helps boost their physical health; builds creativity and confidence; boosts their self-esteem; enhances moods; makes them happier and energetic; encourages teamwork and allows them to be more social.
